Adaptive reuse and conservation of a colonial-era barrack into an experimental dining space for Magic Square, an experimental restaurant incubator for young local chefs.

Interior fit-out centers around a linear open kitchen and bar seating arrangement to facilitate an interactive culinary stage, where diners can watch and converse with chefs. Scope included installation of custom bar counter seating, concealed mechanical and

electrical systems, and lighting designed to accentuate both preparation and plating. Key interior features include the retention of the building’s steel-cased colonial frame, whitewashed walls, and a pared-back material palette to draw attention to the culinary performance. The minimalist concept was balanced with polished surfaces and refined detailing to embody the modern, experimental nature of the cuisine. The result is an intimate and immersive dining environment where the open kitchen serves as the focal point of the experience.
